Advantech has announced a strategic technology partnership with Socionext Inc., a Japan-based SoC (System on Chip) developer, to seize business opportunities for advanced imaging technologies and solutions, reported Economic Daily News on December 16. Both companies will cooperate on video encoding/decoding, VR (Virtual Reality)/AR (Augmented Reality) technology, 5G mobile communications, IoT (Internet of Things), and AI (Artificial Intelligence) for UHD (Ultra High Definition) applications. By jointly providing the VEGA series image solutions, Advantech will leverage Socionext's technology advantages to develop 8K image encoding/decoding solutions and establish a corresponding ecosystem, aiming to get a head start in the 8K video broadcasting services for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Game.
